Design: Wedding Stationery Suite

When it all adds up.
Planning a wedding is no easy task. From locking in the perfect venue to finalizing the guest list, there are a lot of compromises to be made before a couple can finally say “I Do.” However, designing the perfect wedding stationery suite, should not be one of them. Below I chronicle the approach I took in designing a client’s wedding logo and Save the Date, as well as my own wedding stationery suite.
When it came to setting a date for their big day, Kreg, a former Math teacher, and his fiancé Rocio knew there was only one option that added up. They had to go with June 1, 2019, for the rare treat of being married on a day that is a numerical palindrome, a number that remains the same when it is reversed. With that in mind, I set off to design a logo that would capture the uniqueness of their date and which could be incorporated into their other wedding collateral. The bride-to-be also wanted to incorporate natural elements into the logo design as they were engaged in a European garden and were both lovers of the outdoors.

The design for their Save the Date incorporates the couple’s logo, as well as embodying their rustic romantic theme with Mexican- and Italian-inspired touches that represent their cultures.
For my own wedding–an intimate gathering in a historical venue in the heart of the Bluegrass–my now-husband and I knew we wanted an eclectic but modern design to capture our personalities and the significance of the place. The font choices included a modern sans serif alongside an elegant cursive with old school charm. Our wedding colors (i.e., green, black, baby blue, pink, and gold) were a hybrid of his favorite colors and my feminine sensibility. The curved line motif was a nod to my years spent in the historic Art Deco district of Miami, while a local artist’s drawing of our reception location kept the suite feeling more laid back and custom.
Perhaps our favorite asset in the suite was our wedding logo. Our first name initials together, a C inside a W, was repeated across our save the dates, invitations, wedding programs, and coffee cups. We even placed it on blank cards that our family and friends could use to wish us well or provide advice before departing from the reception. We loved the logo so much we still use it on our household stationery!
Perhaps my favorite

Designing for one of the biggest days of one’s life can be intimidating. However, you simply cannot go wrong when your design mirrors the couple’s backgrounds, personalities, and taste.
