Social: Teacher Appreciation Week Campaign

For 2020 Teacher Appreciation Week, I crafted an engagement campaign for the University of Michigan’s School of Education (SOE). Each day offered a call to action on Facebook and Twitter, which cumulatively acted as an online spirit week to celebrate the teaching profession. Branding for the week was meant to be playful and fun. The graphics used mimicked chalkboard art with jagged stroke lines, handwritten messages and hearts, and apples to symbolize teaching. The colors used were from the University’s primary (maize, blue) and secondary (arboretum blue) color palettes. When possible, School’s logo was also used, which includes the iconic “block M” above the School’s shortened monicker, Education.

MONDAY

The SOE kicked off the week with a call to “show your appreciation with our Facebook frames.” There were three frames any Facebook user could access to change their profile picture for #TeacherAppreciationWeek. The SOE’s own FB profile picture sported the first design all week.

TUESDAY

Despite competing with a Michigan election day and Taco Tuesday on Cinco de Mayo, we still observed some responses to our #ThankATeacher ask. My personal favorite is the tweet below.

WEDNESDAY

To recognize the SOE’s own alumni in the teaching profession, I put together a Facebook video acknowledging the momentous task of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. The following message was posted on both FB and Twitter with the school’s alumni relations hashtag #ElevateEducators:

THURSDAY

Playing off of well-known Throwback Thursday posts, we asked SOE followers to share a memory of their favorite teacher and use #TBT.

FRIDAY

On the last day of #TeacherAppreciationWeek, I gave a nod to the SOE’s own teaching mission by having them thank the next generation of educators. I did this through a series of photos featuring current teacher education college students and tagging them with the #FutureTeacher hashtag.
